Strategy: Eat the veggies first.
Why: Just logically they take up space so that you will eat less of other higher calorie items. But there are two other important off-shoots of this strategy. When you do eat the more tempting foods, you stop because you are actually full, not when you when you are still longing for more. I hate that feeling of tearing myself away from something that I just didn’t get enough of – probably the main reason that I never eat cereal for breakfast. One bowl is a tease. Also, there is a process called imprinting where your brain actually increases your liking of things you eat when you are really hungry. So, using this tool to increase my liking for healthy foods can be helpful – I certainly don’t need to like the starch part of a meal any more than I already do.
