Roadblock: I can stay commited to eating well…as long as my head stays in the right place. This is the big one, the motherload, as it were, of risky conditionals. I think of it as the dietary equivalent of worshipping false gods. There are far more reliable hooks on which to hang your success hat, that’s for sure.
Safe detour: Learning to create such autopilot habits, creating such supportive environments so that I am not depending on being psyched may be the singlemost most important task I ever undertake for weight management. Otherwise I am potentially off the hook whenever I am stressed, busy, tired, bored, unhappy, yadda,yadda, yadda. Can you guarantee that you won’t be? I can’t.
