It’s my mother-in-law’s fault…I feel totally stressed when she visits. Many of us have someone whom we feel this way around. Hard to just decide to change that dynamic, and hard to just decide that you won’t react that way. Worth working on certainly if that person is likely to be in your life with any frequency. And, clearly (duh), overeating isn’t going to help with decreasing the stress other than temporarily. It certainly isn’t going to change the stressor, and likely will undermine the stressee (me) after the fact. A practical strategy though, at least for the interim, would be to plan for that stress eating by stocking that environment with tons of readily available, safe foods I can graze on. Can’t hurt and the action might even end up being a bit empowering.
