Summer provides the BBQ-er with the opportunity to make lots extra proteins and veggies and keep them on hand for the week. Pre-grilled chicken breasts can easily be refrozen and defrosted for future use. Most all my clients like grilled veggies best, as veggies go. The other day one of my clients called me really surprised and delighted because, for the first time, she had actually done this and grabbed a bunch of leftover grilled veggies late one lunchless afternoon right before going out to dinner. It had the desired effect – she wasn’t starved when she got to the restaurant and so she didn’t consume the whole bread basket. Who knew, right?
One of the great things about leftover grilled veggies is that I won’t eat them if I am not actually hungry. Disappointing perhaps, but effective. With any of the dry crunchy snacks, I can’t tell whether I am hungry for them or not. They always sound good to me. One of the most effective ways to tell if I am really hungry when I am feeling that I have just got to have some of those (supposedly safe because they are fat free nonsense foods) pretzels, pop chips, soy crisps, dried fruit crisps, etc., is to ask myself if I am hungry enough to eat hummus and carrots or an apple. If the answer is no, then I am not really hungry. Good to know at least.
