Maintaining some of the same routines on vacation that work at home can really help. There is a reason why they work at home. For example, for me, keeping breakfast and lunch in line is less difficult than keeping dinner in line when I am away. Lots of times everyone is eating breakfast at different times anyway, and no one cares what time I arrive, or if I arrive for that matter. So, doing my walking first isn’t interfering in anyone’s day. And, BTW, I have never skipped showering because I am interfering with everyone’s schedule.
If I have walked first, I have likely motivated myself for the myriad of difficult food stimuli I will undoubtedly have to deal with as well as cut into the amount of time I am available to be overeating. Then too, I have not only left myself the caloric room for a more indulgent dinner, but I am not already so derailed that I am overriding my natural $ cheapness and eating every ridiculously overpriced snack in the mini bar before we even leave for dinner.
