A calorie is not just a calorie to me when…I have actually physically hardwired the neural pathways in my brain to associate that food with relief. I am literally releasing chemicals upon eating that food that temporarily soothe me. Problem is, it wears off, but the calories don’t. Worse yet, I keep needing more of that substance to get the same relief. We know that the dopamine receptors in our brains downregulate each time we have that food and we keep needing more to get the same effect – just like with cocaine. Explains a lot, doesn’t it?
