A calorie is not just a calorie to me when…I it always takes me to “I blew it or I ruined it”.  This food always eventually gets me to that “I don’t care” place.  Salty sweet particulaly has this effect.  And I guess I am not the only one; even Atkins makes a salty sweet bar now reflecting the public’s love for this particular combo even in a high-protein-very-low-carb version.  And the food industry is on to this big time.  Did you know that the big hit at the Meadowlands Fair this year was a cheeseburger on a glazed donut?  How about the new ice cream with bacon bits?

And a calorie is certainly not just a calorie to me when…I think I have to starve once I ate it.  I see this all the time with eating disorders (including my own).  The food takes on significance way out of line with its actual nutritional or caloric price tag.  I perceive it as far more “damaging” than it is – although, possibly for good reason, considering my history with it.  But, the validity of my past experience with this food nothwithstanding, I can really over-react and end up feeling like I have to waaaaay over compensate for it.
