Blaming is a great one because there is nothing I have to change about myself – it is someone else’s fault. “My husband doesn’t like it when I don’t eat with him” (so eat with him, but eat something that works for you). “My kids have to have this in the house” (so keep it in their rooms or the garage). ” My friends picked a Mexican restaurant” (So, eat fajitas without all the fixings, or eat before you go, or tell them you don’t like Mexican food). “So and so wanted McDonald’s” (have one of the great salads or go to your choice of a safe fast food place also, ideally first). If I buy into this idea that I have no choice, then for me to be thin apparently someone else is going to have to change. My kids, my spouse, my friends hold the keys to my weight. If they don’t change, then I guess I am going to have to stay overweight.
