The foot bone is connected to the ankle bone. Chances are I keep screwing myself up in the same ways over and over again – studies show that most people do. I may only have to change a few critical things that act sort of like lynch pins – slippery slopes that once embarked upon, invariably head downhill at increasing speed. The rest of the slide is all just ripples in the pool from the first few missteps. If I can just stop beating myself up long enough and take that energy and apply it usefully, I can find the beginning of the chain of events. I can catch the train before it is going 100 mph.
