Too tired is probably one of the most common reasons for not exercising in general, and certainly in the morning.  What one of my clients says to herself to talk herself into getting up in the morning to exercise is this:  “If I go back to sleep now, I will actually be more groggy when I wake back up for the second time”.    Here’s what I usually say to myself:  “The extra half hour I will get if I go back to sleep now will not make up the three hours more sleep I really need.  I will only be half asleep anyway, and that is not really restorative sleep.  A better solution all round would be to go to bed earlier tonight.  The exercise is actually more likely to give me energy today than ½ hour more of half sleep.”

I think I sometimes act like someone is forcing me to stay up too late at night.  Like I have no choice.  That is ridiculous of course.  I had to laugh recently at a TV commercial encouraging us to eat some junkie quick thing for breakfast because apparently, as a nation “Americans don’t have time for breakfast.”  I don’t know; is it just me?  Am I missing something here?  Can’t we all, as a nation, just go to bed earlier?
