I generate a certain kind of protective bubble around my exercise when I go to great lengths to maintain the schedule.  Only I can figure this out about myself or do this for myself.   I am the one who creates this significance.  It has kept me (a non-jock, non-athlete) a continuous exerciser for about almost 20 years now through lots of scheduling conflicts, disheartening life changes, tragedies and good times too.
