When you are in shape (and adequately rested and fueled, by the way) “the burn” actually does feel sort of good, and sometimes exhilarating. At least, it is not as unpleasant as it is when you are not in shape. I remember thinking when I first started exercising, “Are they nuts? This feels like torture”. It doesn’t stay like that. The “push” is not as unpleasant when you are in shape. Although I would never say I love the burn, I have heard myself say upon occasion, “it is a good hurt”.
