Each time I derailed and ultimately gained back, I did so by doing the same old problem behaviors that I did the last time around.  I just never noticed the patterns.  Apparently most of us do this.  But, if I learn to spot these patterns at their outset, I can learn to head them off.  We all have a basic behavioral “fingerprint”, Steven Gullo so aptly puts it.  When we learn to use that information instead of hiding from it, our perhaps very painful histories will be our salvation.

As a client of mine once said, “I had to learn to stop beating myself up and take a look at this information, because the last time I just waited till I cycled around to being disgusted enough with myself to be ready again, it cost me 50 more pounds.”
