I figure it this way, I could pay in advance or pay later. January diet commercials attest to which method most people choose. If I pay in advance, I am sure I will in fact pay it because I already have. This banking in advance technique also made me very aware of the work involved in managing these big calorie intakes and ultimately was the convincing factor that that short term enjoyment may not be worth all the work it took to accommodate it into my budget. When I just “got back on track” or “got back on my diet” and was going to thoretically pay it off later – it was largely that – theoretical. I rarely paid the bill in full, so as well as the slow accumlation in pounds of all those never reconciled over-expenditures, I never really identified accurately the price I was paying (pun intended) for my hedonism.
i have been re-reading these from the beginning every day in an effort to do this
this holiday season, as opposed to the eat for today strategy. i just have trouble
with the math of it. i used to think that if i stayed on course all month and just
had one day of Thanksgiving, etc. it wouldn’t be so bad. sadly, it is. luckily, my sister makes Thanksgiving so i at least don’t have leftovers to work with. now, what about that math!!
Yeah, four overeating days is a lot harder to reconcile than one, especially if they escalate as they go along! Still, if the one day isn’t so high, you probably don’t have to go to great lengths to fix it.
Try to estimate the worst case scenario of calorie damage for that day and then deduct it from your total for a week (at your goal weight if that’s where you want to be – for your current weight if you just don’t want to gain). Then divide by six and you have what you need to net for the other six days of that week.
If it is too hard to reconcile in a week (remember that you can use your exercise calories too like using your part time job money to pay off the debt), then spread it out over two weeks. You can do it ahead of time or after the fact. At this point your reconciling weeks (if you need two) would have to straddle the holiday.
Good luck. Call if you need specifics.
