Number Three – Don’t screw up your regular good habits by opening doors that have nothing to do with the holiday. Melanie works at an office that always has bagels and fixin’s. She has worked hard to break this habit. It is so easy to allow yourself to open up doors like this when you are in holiday mentality, and then be unable to shut them when January rolls around. If she allowed one bagel with a schmear back into her life Monday through Friday (let’s say an extra 500 daily x 5 days = 2500/wk), she would pack on about 4 lbs. during the holidays from this one thing alone and easily be adding enough calories to regain her 40 lbs. over the course of the year if she weren’t able to shut that door again.
