Mind Games can take any form that gets the job done – promises, excuses, rationalizations, self-pity, self-recrimination, blame, perfectionism, etc. But they all have one thing in common: they disempower me by letting me off the hook from figuring out my own solutions. They all, in one way or another, represent permission to not try. They excuse me from the process of learning to manage myself. Thus I am doomed to await the next external catalyst – be it an “aha”, someone else’s success, a health consequence, enough pounds, self disgust or even a new miracle option that promises to fix me without me having to participate in that process.
