A calorie is not just a calorie to me when…I don’t need teeth to eat it. Chewing is one of the main ways my brain gets signaled that I am eating. If I don’t get the signal that I ate, chances are I will continue to eat till I do – and that can be way past what was reasonable. The food industry capitalizes on this. As Dr. Phil points out in The Ultimate Weight Solution, you don’t need teeth for virtually all of the fast food. And David Kessler in The End of Overeating elaborates on how the food industry is using this information to increase our consumption of everything from grilled chicken breasts at Chili’s to Big Macs. To that end, yogurt does not a meal make. It is a condiment. Having a yogurt as my lunch is like having a container of sour cream as my meal. Just an opinion.
