Summer, more than other seasons seems like a time limited window – a great time to try new things for a brief period.  Of course, it is also easy to say “after this” for the short two month window.   You can commit to something only for the two months the kids are out of school, or only when the kids are away at camp, or only while you can BBQ, or only while it is light out so late or early.   There are lots of other things that happen mostly in the Summer like farmer’s markets, biking, after dinner walks, growing your own veggies.

New actions are frequently motivating, so trying something new could end up having far reaching consequences.  One of my clients went on a kayaking trip and ended up joining a crewing team that year and it became her exercise of choice.  I didn’t even know there were voluntary crewing teams of adults, did you?

Another creative couple started walking to their Saturday night dinner out with friends during the Summer, and it became a regular habit, weather permitting.  They would drop one car at the restaurant (or sometimes movie theatre) in Teaneck earlier in the day.  Then they would walk there with another couple and come home by car.  It ended up really being quality time for them and their friends, chatting along the way.  And, they probably at least walked off the wine!   Other clients walk with their kids for frozen yogurt.
