When you lift weights or do any kind of resistance training, you give your body more places to store sugar. To begin with they are sugar burning exercises, so you use the sugar already stored in your muscles and make room for more to be stored there. Then by building more muscle mass, you get more sugar burning capacity. Your blood sugar stays better managed because you actually grow more mitochondria in each and every cell. Remember Biology 101? Mitochondria, “the powerhouse of the cell”. You also grow more insulin receptor sites on your cell walls so you have more little insulin doorways to allow fat and sugar access into your cell where they can be used.
