How does my most successful plan manage treats?…does it define or restrict the times that I am “allowed” to eat them? Does it simply not allow them (probably the most effective but that rarely holds up indefinitely). Does it prescribe controlled portion packaging, limited options, or specific“legal” snacks (often provided by a diet program itself)? Are the treats I choose only the ones that I am sure do not trigger me to want more – like ricotta cheese and cocoa powder? Are the treats real food as opposed to processed junk – like berries and cream? Do they need to be gluten free?
This is one of those critical areas to use your history to examine. Most people cannot live without anything they consider to be a treat, but finding the ones that you can keep a grip on, or the circumstances under which that grip can be maintained (like only eating treats outside your home, or only in a restaurant), that is the challenge.
