Roadblock: I can stay committed to exercise if…I don’t have to get up or go to bed earlier. When I am really not going to get enough sleep, it helps me to tell myself that the half hour of time exercising takes would not make any kind of dent in the actual amount of sleep I am missing. In fact, I will probably be more energized by that than an extra half hour of sleep. What I need is a good two hours more sleep. Skipping my exercise is not going to make up for that!
Safe detour: How many times have I heard myself say I don’t have time in the morning. Aren’t I the one deciding when I get up? So many times we make statements like that, or “I don’t get to bed till 11 pm” like I have nothing to do with that decision. I can choose differently. Oddly enough, I seem to be willing to get up at ungodly hours of the morning to catch an early flight or begin a long car ride when it’s for a vacation.
