Nutritional Basic – I have to feed myself real food (food food, I call it).  Apparently my body doesn’t consider itself truly fed on something like breakfast cereal, or the font of other dry crunchies that sound oh so good as a between meal snack or actual meal.  One client calls them accessory foods.  Probably the most significant leg up I ever gave myself in my eating was to eliminate fake foods from my daytime eating.  If I weren’t hungry, I wouldn’t bother to eat most of the foods I keep around me regularly.  It helps to prevent recreational grazing.  Who is going to recreationally graze on leftover sauteed broccoli rabe?  People always ask me what I snack on, no doubt hoping I will provide them with some safe dry crunchy alternative, and I say “You’re not gonna like this, but…”

It’s sort of like knowing I should get my work done before I play. My daytime food is utilitarian.  I reserve things I really love (which includes all things dry and crunchie) as treats and have them at the end of the day or the end of the week.  No doubt consequently, day times are no longer a struggle.  They are probably not as much fun, but they are not a fight.
