Emotional Basics – It would certainly help me if I can recognize and acknowledge when I am in trouble…early in the game.  I try to ask myself, “Does this feel “legal” to me?” before I do it.  You know, that little niggling voice that says, “this may not be smart”?

That spot where I am in trouble is a very individual thing though discernible through my history.  It can also be a a bit of a moving target.  I am far more fragile when I am tired, stressed or had an overeating day the day before.  Bottom line is that only I know when I am crossing that invisible line into what feels “not legal” or just “not smart” for me.  It is a slippery slope, and once I cross that tipping point, all bets are off.  Best to learn to recognize it while 51% of me is still on the safe side.  After the fact, I do usually ask myself “Well, how did that work for me?” and do some Monday morning quarterbacking.  But that is often too late to save myself, after the damage is already done.
