To be honest, it is in self-defense that I have made a deliberate point of developing activities that do not involve eating. I don’t know about you, but I just can’t maintain my willpower with so much food stimulus if all of my socializing involves eating. I always have a harder time in restaurants with all the choices and “accessories” that come free with every meal. Free always sucks me in.
Better yet is to pick something that keeps my hands busy. While I have a number of clients that do things like needlepoint, I have no patience for things that take so long to come up with a finished product. I got two friends to take a basic jewelry making class with me at the Adult Ed and we ended up spending several other evenings making earrings for them to use to help raise money for breast cancer. I am still trying to learn to use my too high tech camera (thank God it has an auto setting!). The actual picture taking is usually outdoors away from food, and with all the really easy to use programs on my computer and practically free lessons at the Apple store, I can do all kinds of things with the pictures myself now. Look Ma, no food!
